A profoundly enigmatic film written by Alain Robbe-Grillet and shot with cool, restrained elegance by Alain Resnais. In a rambling hotel a man accosts a woman and attempts to persuade her that they had an affair the previous year. Resnais fuses past, present and future and we never discover what really happened.
