Emperor Waltz, The

Billy Wilder's favourite theme of the confrontation of New and Old World values is played out through the story of travelling Salesman Virgil Smith, who wants to sell phonographs in pre-WWI Austria. He especially wants to sell one to Emperor Franz Joseph, and falls in love with a countess on the way. Oscar for the score by Victor Young.
