Adapted from Roy Mintons highly controversial play about the cruelty and violence that takes place in a correction centre for young offenders. The film powerfully portrays one mans struggle against all odds to be the top dog or daddy, in a system that is intent on breaking his spirit. Ray Winstone is a revelation as Carlin, in his break-through role.
